Australia is one of the world’s top study destinations for international students, and the destination of choice for Filipino students. In 2022, nearly 18,000 Filipinos studied in Australia. Each year the Australian Government supports around 50 high-achieving Filipinos to undertake postgraduate studies in Australia under the prestigious Australia Awards scholarships.

As a Strategic Partner, Australia is enhancing its partnerships with the Philippines in education and technical and vocational training. Significant opportunities exist for Australian education and training offerings, including in micro-credentials through education partnerships with relevant Philippine institutions. Training areas of interest include health, food and hospitality, ICT and financial services.

In October 2023, Australia and the Philippines established the new Philippines Institute at the Australian National University (ANU). The new Institute will see Filipino and Australian academics work together to deliver world-class research into the most pressing policy challenges in the Philippines.
