The Australian Embassy brings the celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day back to Manila with a weekend festival at SM Megamall Fashion Hall from 20 to 22 May.
“We mark Philippines-Australia Friendship Day every 22 May, and we bring the celebration to a different city each year. This year, we are pleased to celebrate Friendship Day back in Manila, our first face-to-face festival since the pandemic,” said Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, Steven J Robinson AO.
“This festival is also an opportunity to share with our Filipino friends an experience of Australia with a food, retail, study and travel festival. We are also highlighting our expanding people-to-people ties made stronger by the Filipino-Australian community and our Australia Global Alumni network,” said the Ambassador.
Experience shopping in Sydney’s The Rocks markets with Taste of Australia pop-ups featuring world-class wines, sustainable meat, fresh fruits, healthy snacks, and Coles products from Australia available exclusively at SM Markets. Shop up a storm with Australia’s best beauty products, or learn about valuable opportunities to study in Australia by checking out education booths with representatives from Australia’s cutting-edge universities.
A highlight of the weekend fair will be the free program on Saturday, 21 May at 3:00 PM featuring Filipino-Australian celebrities Diego Loyzaga, Teresa Loyzaga and Leila Alcacid. Australian cosmetic brand BYS will launch a new product line, Qantas will lead an information session about travelling to Australia, and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission will give an overview about study options in Australia.
As part of the celebration, shoppers at the retail festival will get a chance to win round trip tickets for two to Australia via Qantas.
The festival will also feature hand-made clothing, accessories, and gift items, as well as fresh and artisanal food proudly made by Australia-educated Filipinos.
Ambassador Robinson said “we celebrate our alumni and their individual and combined accomplishments. Our seven decades of friendship between the Philippines and Australia is strengthened by the Australia Global Alumni – an international community of scholars who have studied in Australia, and Australians who have studied overseas.”
