Climate Change and Disaster Resilience

Image: Australia’s pre-positioned emergency supplies were deployed and distributed to the families who were severely affected by typhoon Paeng in Mindanao (February, 2022)

Australia is committed to support the Philippines become safer and more resilient to the impacts of disasters and climate change by addressing the humanitarian and early recovery needs of the most vulnerable people affected by disasters and emergencies.

Through our flagship resilience program, SHIELD (Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities against Disasters and Climate Change), we are working with national and local government partners to mainstream disaster and climate resilience policy.

We will also explore opportunities including in climate change mitigation and adaptation, renewable energy, electric vehicles and transport decarbonisation, regional connectivity, mineral resources development, biodiversity and wildlife conservation, and nature-based solutions for climate outcomes.
